Dawn of the Expanse
A void settlement consisting of a tethered network of stone structures that floats within the voids surrounding the dying star Furibundus. It is a mass of buttressed temples and plasma-pitted fanes whose towers jut out all angles into the night. At the center of this mass of void structures is a macro-statue of the Emperor, many times the size of most warships. It is this vista which truly welcomes one to the Expanse – and many don’t consider a Lord-Captain a true Rogue Trader until they have seen it.
While many of the structures that make up Footfall would not be out of place on a planet’s surface, others are masses of winding tunnels and spiraling mazes that would fall apart under the tug of gravity. Some sectors of the settlement have no gravity, while many more have fluctuations in the locally generated gravity fields.
Footfall has slowly become known as a lair of scum and villainy, with backstabbing and intrigue the norm since the original settlers have been outnumbered by less savory successors. Below the sordid world of fanatics, assassins, spies, fugitives, rowdy crews, narco-tribesmen and any number of disreputable merchants lies an even darker world: Heriteks, cultists, unsanctioned psykers, unrestrained criminality and worse. It is a widely known secret that the Administratum, Battlefleet Calixis, and several Houses of the Nobility maintain both open and clandestine agents. It’s also rumored that anything can be bartered here, from proscribed technology to human souls.
